Deepen Intercollegiate Exchange and Seek Win-Win Development

        Recently, at the invitation of professor Nalbantoglu, the dean of the graduate school of McGill University in Canada, Tao Tao, the executive dean of the graduate school then made a visit to the graduate school of McGill, and saw students from Xiamen University there during his time as a visiting scholar in North America.

        McGill University is an important partner of Xiamen University. In September 2013, XMU signed the agreement with McGill University for the joint cultivation of PhD candidate. McGill University agrees to accept outstanding postgraduate students from XMU for further studying and offers tuition exemption for them. As for allowance, students can apply for the funding of China scholarship Council. From 2014 to 2016, under the framework of the agreement, 12 excellent postgraduate students are recommended to McGill University to study for PhD and 6 of them get the funding from China Scholarship Council. Starting from scratch, now Chinese students who went to McGill through the national government funding program are mostly from XMU.

        During the visit, Professor Tao Tao made a special visit to students from XMU. Along with dean Nalbantoglu and director of McConnell Brain Imaging center Sylvain Baillet, Tao Tao talked cordially with PhD candidate Dong Jie, Cai Danni and Zhang Rongmo about their life, study and research in McGill. During the conversation, the three students all showed their satisfaction with the life in McGill and gratitude for XMU for offering such a great platform. Professor Sylvain Baillet, the tutor of Dong Jie in McGill, showed approval to the joint cultivation program and speaks highly of Dongjie. He also expressed wish for accepting more excellent students from XMU to study in the world-class Montreal Neurological Institute.Dean Nalbantoglu attaches great importance on the cooperative partnership with XMU and invited executive dean Tao Tao to visit McGill as soon as she is appointed as the dean of the Graduate school. Earlier in May this year, Dean Nalbantoglu visited XMU at the invitation of executive dean Tao Tao and joined the Workshop on Graduate Education in Building World-Class Universities. She understood XMU better through this visit.Dean Nalbantoglu vigorously supports the joint cultivation program. She praised the high quality of the students from Xiamen University and showed interest in cooperation and exchanges about postgraduate education between the two Universities. The two sides also had an in-depth discussion on deepening cooperation and exchanges and expected comprehensive cooperation in the future to push forward win-win cooperation in multiple areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, and discipline building.
