Recently, the result of 2015 CSC graduate program has been announced. This year a total of 116 students from Xiamen University received CSC funding to pursue a high-level university degree or to carry out joint education in world-class foreign universities such as Harvard University, MIT, McGill University and Oxford University. This is another great achievement after we had over 100 students accepted by CSC graduate program in 2014. Compared with 2012, we have nearly 40 more students funded by the program.
In order to achieve the strategy of invigorating China through human resource development, to promote high-level universities, and enhance its ability to build an innovative country, our country launched a stated-funded graduate program for national high-level universities in 2007, which has played an important role in promoting the internationalization of graduate education.
In recent years, to do well in application of the stated-funded graduate program for national high-level universities , Graduate School has taken initiatives to adopt effective measures: 1) implemented the policy of funding and enrollment quota compensation, and mobilized the enthusiasm of colleges, disciplines and supervisors to the program; 2) strengthened communication with China Scholarship Council, and actively seeked more application quota of joint education, the number of joint education of Ph.D candidates increased from the past 60 to 83 people this year, an increase of nearly 40%, greatly solving the problem that our school had less quota of CSC graduate program a few years ago; 3) greatly publicized the CSC graduate program, and invited deputy secretary general and secretary-general of CSC to our school to interpret relevant policies to expand the impact of the program; 4) codified Xiamen University Workbook of State-funded Graduate Students Studying Abroad, providing convenience for students to apply for the program. Carefully examined each application material to ensure quality application; 5) took initiatives to go out publicizing Xiamen University, to strengthen high-level communication with foreign universities, looking for cooperation opportunities for doctoral education to build a platform for high-level university studies. Since 2013, Xiamen University and McGill University in Canada, University of Delaware in the US and University of Southampton in England signed cooperation agreements of joint doctoral education. Through these cooperative programs, this year a total of six students were accepted by the above universities to pursue Ph.D degrees. Xiamen University will recently sign agreements of joint doctoral education with universities of the United States and Australia to provide more opportunities for students to study abroad; 6) actively supported colleges and institutes to make full use of various state-funded programs, and work with foreign high-level universities to establish graduate education base. The Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE)and Applied Statistics and Economics Research Center of Humboldt University signed a cooperation agreement and succeeded in application for Sino-German joint Doctoral School to the Ministry of Education in 2014. With this program, WISE sent five doctoral students to conduct joint education in Germany in 2014. our Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials worked in cooperation with University of California, Santa Barbara, successfully applying to CSC for 2015 innovative talents of international cooperation program, and CSC will finance 6 students of the center to University of California, Santa Barbara to carry out a period of 6-12 months of joint education each year in the next three years. Approval and implementation of these programs have further expanded the channels for us to send state-funded graduate students to study abroad.
