Organized by the Arts and Science Committee of the Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, undertaken by Xiamen University, Seminar of Arts and Science of China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education — 2015 Annual Academic Conference has been held in Xiamen from November 27th to 28th ,2015.This conference focused on such issues as “mode for training prominent and innovative graduate students”, “exploration and practices of graduate education reform of professional degree ”,etc.; these issues have been discussed in depth.
More than 240 representatives from over 122 universities, institutions as well as provincial level departments in charge of degree and graduate education, including Beijing University, Xiamen University, Renmin University of China, University of Science and Technology of China, Degree Office of Shanghai, Education Department of Jiangsu Province and Education Department of Gansu Province, have attended this conference.
Hao Tongliang, Deputy Director of the Training Department of Degree Office of State Council, Chen Guolong, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Fujian Province, Wu Daguang, Vice President of Xiamen University, Zhang Shulin, Vice President of Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, Vice President of the University of Science and Technology of China, and Gong Qihuang, academician, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Arts and Science Work Committee of the Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, Executive Dean of the Graduate School of Beijing University and so on have attended the conference.
Firstly, Wu Daguang expressed warm welcome to attendees in representation of Xiamen University and made a brief introduction of measures that have been taken in graduate education in recent years. Chen Guolong congratulated the host of this conference and introduced to the attendees the current situation of degree and graduate education in Fujian. Zhang Shulin also expressed her congratulation and made a report about recent activities in the society.
During the conference, Hao Tongliang made a report titled The Reform and Development of Graduate Education of Professional Degree. This report teased out the development process of Graduate Education of Professional Degree in China and analyzed the exiting problems; this report also pointed out the future orientation of reform.
Zhang Shulin focused on the theme of this annual conference, and made a report with the title, Mode for Training Prominent and Innovative Graduate Student. Executive Dean of the Graduate School of Xiamen University, Tao Tao, made a report with the title, Revision of Training Mode for Graduate Students of Xiamen University. Executive Dean of the Graduate School of Nankai University, Liu Yubin, made a report with the title, Comprehensive Reform of PhD Education of Nankai University. Director of the Degree Office of Shanghai, Shu Jinlong, made a report with the title, Deepening the Comprehensive Graduate Education Reform in Shanghai——Taking Professional Degree of Clinical Medicine as an Example. Director of Degree Office of the Education Department of Jiangsu Province, Yang Xiaojiang, made a report with the title, Local Governments’ Role in Graduate Education Reform of Professional Degree. Vice Dean of the Management College of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Huang Shunchun, made a report with the title, Approaches to Improve the Quality of Training of MBA. Liu Li, from Institute of Education of Hunan University of Science and Technology made a report with the title, Improving Education Practices for Professional Degree Candidates Majored in Education. All reporters have combined with the new situations, new features and the actual situation of their own working places, shared with other attendees the innovations, thinking and experience in the Arts and Science Works. The contents of reports were varied and excellent.
During the closing ceremony, Gong Qihuang, in the representation of the committee of the Arts and Science, expressed gratitude for the support from the Degree Office of the State Council, the Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education and all member units as well as the efforts and arrangements made by the Graduate School of Xiamen University. He pointed out that this annual conference has provided a platform for communication and study under the circumstances that China has issued a series of policies of graduate education reform, that it will help all member units get a better understanding of the policies, to explore the future orientation of reform, and to further improve the training quality of graduate students.
During the conference, by watching the graduation concert of graduate students from the College of Arts of Xiamen University, representatives have experienced the efforts and achievements that Xiamen University has made on the training of Master of Fine Arts.
