International media scramble to report on new scientific discovery made by He Jinru, postgraduate of College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University

On Dec. 21st, 2015, a research paper titled “Life cycle reversal in Aurelia sp.1 (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa)” got published on《PLOS ONE》, authored by He Jinru, a postgraduate of College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University. The first back-transformation of sexually mature medusa into polyps in Aurelia sp.1 was reported in this paper, attracting great attention from the academia. The discovery got reported by numerous media from home and abroad.

The major work of the paper was finished by postgraduate He Jinru and his supervisor, associate professor Zheng Lianming from the laboratory of Marine Planktology, College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University. The corresponding author is associate professor Zheng Lianming. The research was funded by National Science Foundation of China.
