On February 28th, Qi Diyi, a doctoral student from College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, published a paper titled “Increase in Acidifying Water in the Western Arctic Ocean” as the first author on Nature Climate Change, a companion to Nature (2015-2016 Impact Factor: 7.51). The achievement is a cooperation result of the research team led by Prof. Chen Liqi and several scientific research teams in China and the U.S.A. It unveils that acidifying water in the Western Arctic Ocean has increased in the past 20 years due to global climate change.

Qi Dili, the first author of the paper, was once a student of Prof. Zhai Weidong with the research team, Ocean Carbon Cycle, in his graduate study. Now, he is a doctoral student of Prof. Chen Liqi majoring in polar oceanography as well as a member of the Third Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration. He participated in the sixth and the seventh Chinese Arctic scientific expeditions and was rewarded the title “Excellent Team Member” twice (the top 20%), during which he received guidance and helps from Prof. Cai Weijun, a partner of the Arctic projects, and Prof. Richard A. Feely. Therefore, he can do well in the cross-discipline study of marine-atmospheric chemistry and global climate change with internationalized research teams.
