To further improve the political literacy and vocational skill of staff of Graduate School to better serve the faculty and students in XMU and promote the development of degrees and graduate education, the Party branch of Graduate School held a seminar to study the speech of President Xi at the National Conference on Ideological and Political Education of Colleges and Universities, “Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education of Colleges and Universities under New Circumstances” (“Opinions” for short) issued by the central Party Committee and the State of Council and “The Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for Degrees and Graduate Education Development” issued by the Ministry of Education and the Academic Degree Office of the State Council. The conference was chaired by Tao Tao, secretary of the Party branch and executive dean of Graduate School.

At the seminar, Tao Tao stressed that the staff of Graduate School, as members of administrative departments in XMU, should further improve political literacy, unswervingly uphold Marxism, fully implement our party's education policies, better understand the requirements of President Xi, constantly enhance the capability of service and management, and thus prompt the development of degrees and graduate education in XMU.

He discussed with attenders why we should highly value higher education, why and how to develop talents, and how to conduct ideological and political education in XMU. All attenders had a better understanding of the speech of President Xi at the National Conference on Ideological and Political Education of Colleges and Universities. Tao also said that the speech offered by President Xi provided possible solutions to problems in the development of higher education and ideological and political education in colleges and universities. It was of vital importance and could guide us to build a socialist university with Chinese characteristics and promote the development of our country and party.

He also asked attenders to enhance their own political literacy, strengthen the ideological role in pedagogical methods and various activities, promote innovative reforms in the ideological and political education, and follow the overall requirements of the “Opinions” which revealed that the central Party community and the State of Council had attached great importance to the ideological and political education of colleges and universities, and presented higher requirements for universities to better carry out related work.

He then delivered the requirements of “The Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for Degrees and Graduate Education Development” in terms of direction, goals and reform measures of the development of education, and relevant guarantee measures.

Fang Ying, vice dean and director of Office of Academic Affairs, said that this conference was closely related with the daily work of Graduate School. He emphasized that we shall follow the speech of President Xi, fully implement the requirements of related documents, integrate graduate education with ideological and political literacy, deepen reform in graduate education, regulate the management of graduate students, and thus enhance the quality of graduate education.

Other leaders of Graduate School shared their views on the speech offered by President Xi and related national policies. They said they would work more carefully and thoroughly to implement policies, strengthen innovation in reform and make the management of graduate students more rigorous, standardized and scientific.

At last, other staff of Graduate School also shared their opinions. They all agreed to further study the connotation of the speech and guide the management of graduate students with ideological and political education.
