On the afternoon of June 14th, the Thirteenth Session of the Ninth Committee Meeting for the Conferment of Academic Degrees was held in Conference Room 215, Songen Building, and chaired by President Zhu Chongshi, chairman of XMU Committee for the Conferment of Academic Degrees.

        At the meeting, representatives from the Academic Affairs Office, Medical College, Overseas Education College and College of Continuing Education announced the names of the 2017 candidates for Bachelor Degrees, and then the Graduate School offered the name list of candidates for Master’s Degrees and Doctoral Degrees. After discussion, the committee members decided to offer Bachelor degrees for 5792 undergraduate students, Master’s degrees for 3227 postgraduate students and Doctoral degrees for 203 doctoral students.

        Meanwhile, supervisor candidates for doctoral students were also discussed at the meeting and 7 professors were entitled to be supervisors for doctoral students at last. And the 2016 result of anonymous review of postgraduate dissertations was also reported on the meeting.

        President Zhu pointed out that our university should continue putting more emphasis on academic achievement and conduct our work in line with the requirements of Ministry of Education.

        The Graduate School made a thorough report on the recruitment of doctoral students, the standardization of the management of postgraduate courses and programs, and ways to advance the internalization of postgraduate education and enhance students’ scientific and research capability. President Zhu said on the meeting that XMU had achieved great success in the comprehensive reform of postgraduate education in recent five years. He stressed that research capability and reform should be underlined in the postgraduate education, especially doctoral education. All colleges and institutes should always emphasize the quality of students’ dissertation, deal with the problems arising from the anonymous review and take more measures to ensure the quality of dissertation.
