On the afternoon of December 28, the 17th Session of XMU’s 9th Degree Assessment Committee took place in Conference Room 215 in Song’en Building, chaired by XMU President Zhang Rong, who is also the chairman of the committee.

At the conference, the Graduate School, the Medical School, the Overseas Education College and the College of Continuing Education made presentations on their lists of students considered for the conferment of bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees. After deliberation and a vote by the committee members, a decision was made to confer bachelor’s degrees on 280 students, master’s degrees on 541 students, and doctoral degrees on 67 students.

Committee members also reviewed the list of newly recruited faculty members at certain colleges and schools who were considered for appointments as doctoral supervisors. After a vote, five of them were confirmed as qualified for the appointments.

Finally, the Graduate School reported the results of the assessment by the State Council’s Education Supervisory Office on dissertations submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for PhD degrees awarded in the 2014/2015 academic year. A total of 37 doctoral dissertations from XMU had been selected for assessment and all of them were confirmed as conforming to the relevant academic standards.

To ensure the quality of doctoral education, each year, state educational authorities assess randomly selected dissertations for which PhD degrees were conferred in the previous year.
