The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council recently released the 2017 list of newly approved master’s and doctoral degree-conferring academic units. Xiamen University was approved to add two tier-one doctoral degree disciplines in Marxist theory and control science and engineering, two tier-one master’s degree disciplines in ethnology and astronomy, and a master’s degree discipline in pharmacology.

These newly established disciplines will cater to the demand for more high-level talent brought about by socio-economic development; they have been set up in accordance with the University’s operating objectives and disciplinary development goals and will be included into the 2019 Xiamen University Catalogue of Graduate Degree Programs Open to Application.

At present, XMU has 33 tier-one doctoral degree disciplines, five tier-two doctoral degree disciplines, 52 tier-one master’s degree disciplines, three tier-two master’s degree disciplines, nine cross-disciplines, one authorized doctoral degree-conferring academic unit, and 24 authorized master’s degree-conferring academic units.
