On the afternoon of June 15, the 19th Session of XMU’s 9th Degree Assessment Committee took place in Conference Room 215 in Song’en Building, chaired by XMU President Zhang Rong, who is also the chairman of the committee.
At the conference, the Graduate School, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Medical College, the College of Overseas Education and the College of Continuing Education made presentations on their lists of students considered for the conferment of bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees. After deliberation and a vote by the committee members, a decision was made to confer bachelor’s degrees on 5,269 students, master’s degrees on 2,995 students, and doctoral degrees on 319 students.
Committee members were also briefed on the results of the master’s degree theses randomly selected for evaluation by Fujian educational authorities in 2017. The Committee called on all colleges and institutes to pay due attention to the problems detected in evaluation, stating that the University would take stronger action against colleges and supervisors who had been found associated with the detected problems for two consecutive years.
In addition, committee members received a briefing by the Graduate School regarding the University’s autonomous assessment of degree programs. After deliberation, the conference adopted the “Guidelines of Xiamen University for the Assessment of Authorized Master’s and Doctoral Degree Programs”, the “Work Scheme of Xiamen University for the Autonomous Assessment of Newly Established Degree Programs in 2018”, and “Guide to the Preparation of Accreditation Reports for Newly Established Degree Programs at Xiamen University”, as well as the academic standards for certain newly established degree programs at the University.
