On June
6th, the Kick-Off Meeting for the 2017 Newly-Added Doctoral and
Master’s Degree Programs was held in Conference Room 220 of Songen Building.
President Zhu Chongshi attended the meeting and offered a speech; and Vice
President Wu Daguang chaired the meeting. Other attenders included Tao Tao, executive
dean of Graduate School, Fang Ying, vice dean and director of Office of
Academic Affairs in Graduate School and college leaders who planned to apply
for newly-added Doctoral and Master’s degree programs.
At the
meeting, Tao Tao, executive dean of Graduate School, made arrangements about
the application of newly-added Doctoral and Master’s degree programs in XMU on
the basis of the current degree programs, and the general requirements,
principles, range, procedure and schedule of the application work. He pointed
out that the application, guided by The Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for Degrees
and Graduate Education Development, was strictly in line with the requirements
of Academic Degree Office of the State Council and Academic Degree Office in
Fujian Province and characterized by need-, quality-, application- and feature-
oriented principles. Combined with the education goal and discipline
development plan, it would continue to facilitate the discipline development in
XMU.
Vice
President Wu Daguang said that all colleges took the initiative to apply for
the newly-added programs. He communicated with the teachers present and
answered some questions. He pointed out the top priority at current stage
included the application of newly-added Doctoral and Master’s degree programs
and independent examination and approval of the programs in XMU. All colleges
should attach great importance, make arrangements to orderly advance the
application work. All colleges should be clear of their own due work and
coordinate with the workers of former Doctoral and Master’s degree programs.
At
last, President Zhu Chongshi made a summary of the meeting. He said that
Doctoral and Master’s degree programs were the most basic frame and platform
for the development of all disciplines. XMU highly emphasized the importance of
this application. He presented three requirements: first, attach great
importance, make careful arrangement, be clear of the work division and spare
no efforts to perform in line with the application procedure; second, allocate
resources effectively and reasonably, hold a whole-picture outlook, regard XMU
as a well-connected organism, and effectively distribute discipline resources;
third, in order to build academically top disciplines, all colleges and schools
should regard the application as a priority, work together and shoulder the
responsibility in the application work.
